Philippians 4:4. (And more!) In any number of places, the Bible tells us to be joyful, to rejoice. But how can “joy” be a discipline? Can you make joy happen? Sunday will tell!
Generosity may seem like something that ought to come to us naturally but it really requires an intentionality, a “discipline.” This week we move from playfulness to generosity and look at ways that we might be more generous through discipline.
Proverbs 8:22-31. Surprised? We are leading off a sermon series about Spiritual Disciplines with a sermon on “playfulness?” We are talking about this topic because I think there is a much wider understanding of “discipline” than we think and because what God wants for us is more than we give God credit for. Sunday we will talk about it.
Luke 9:28-36. Jesus takes his good friends, Peter, James, and John, up on a mountain to pray. Something completely mind-blowing happens; Jesus starts to “shine!!” And then Moses and Elijah, both long dead and important religious leaders, suddenly make an appearance as well! This is the stuff of legends. Still, you have to wonder if Luke wasn’t chuckling to himself as he jotted down Peter’s response. What do we make of this story and what might it tell us about following Jesus? Find out this Sunday.
