On Thursday, June 16th, James and Linda will be headed to Roanoke for Annual Conference, the annual meeting of Virginia United Methodists. We’d like to take non-perishable food to help fill Feeding America Southwest. Please consider bringing 1 or 2 items for James and Linda to carry to conference. We are looking for cereal, rice, peanut butter, or easy open cans (pop-tops for homeless individuals). All donations should be brought to Saint James by THIS Sunday!
Saint James would like to help Mr. Greene over the long term, not just the one day of Rebuilding Together. Here’s what we he needs:
(1) Someone to paint around the edges of the shed that we just repaired.
(2) Folks to mow his yard on a regular basis (so it doesn’t look like the this anymore!)
Want to help out? Email Linda@sjumc.net to let her know how you can help!
Stanley, a local senior will be hosting our Rebuilding Together team on Saturday, April 30th. Saint James folks will be cleaning up the yard, repairing a shed roof, fixing a fence, doing some small electrical and plumbing work, along with some other items.
Here’s what we still need:
1) Pray for Stanley and our team of 13 folks.
2)Donate above your normal giving (mark House on checks or through your text or online giving. We still need $1,100.
3)Help: we need someone to handle lunch for us that day. You would be given the order in advance, would call it in, pick it up and deliver it to the house. Saint James would reimburse you.
Questions? see Linda Patterson or email Linda@sjumc.net
Saint James has the opportunity to help local children, teens and seniors for Christmas . Many of you have taken gift tags. Just know that the gifts are due back by this Sunday, December 13.
What are you doing on Saturday, December 27th? How about helping to feed folks in need? We still need a few folks to help serve lunch at SOME (So Others Might Eat). We will meet at Saint James by 9:45am and will be finished at 1:15pm. Dress comfortably, bring a baseball hat, and be prepared to be on your feet for our time at SOME. Sign up in the Lobby. You must be 13 to help out! See Linda Patterson or Bill McNaught for more info!
Several folks have asked for access to a printable version of our Saint James Commitment Form so I’m attaching that as part of this article. We are hoping to have the majority of responses by the end of November.
Here is the link for the form: Commitment Card FINAL Four Pages
Soles4Souls is a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting the devastating impact of poverty around the world. Saint James has been collecting new and used shoes. By donating your gently worn shoes to this wonderful and worthwhile organization you assisted in the delivery of shoes to aid people in poverty and disaster areas, both here and abroad.
178 pairs of shoes collected! Our Goal was 100 pairs! Way to go, SJ-folks!
This week, I had a young man come to see me who had some questions and some simple needs. He was hungry, his backpack was too small and coming apart, and he needed batteries in the lights for his one form of transportation (a bicycle).
I listened to his story and struggles; we talked about God but not in righteous platitudes. We wondered together about where God is in the pain and struggles of life; my work as your pastor lets me have time available to do that. After we talked, we got in my car and drove over to Target. I got him batteries and a new larger backpack. I gave him a Giant gift card. He thanked me and, through me, you. By giving to our ministries, you made this story possible. Thank you.
