- Spirit and Mission

As bridge builders in our community, Saint James takes seriously our call to be active in our community. Finding ways in our lives to help all of God’s people is the best way we know how to live out Jesus’ amazing love. To be a part of any of these ministries, or if you have questions, reach out to Linda, [email protected].

I love this community and how they care for my family as much as I do;)

Outreach Ministries

Our relationship with Springdale House began in 2016. This residence for 6 seniors/disabled adults is in need of partners for the residents. Opportunities to be a part of cookouts with the residents, participate in outings, garden and help keep the common areas clean are all possible ways Saint Jamesians can build bridges with Springdale House residents. You can learn more about Wesley Housing and this great program through their website. Saint James partners with Wesley Housing each summer to provide school supplies to children in their programs. Here’s how you can be involved. Saint James “adopts” the residents each Christmas, helping them to experience the joy of the holiday. Ann Patterson can help you connect with Springdale House, [email protected].

Saint James hosts the West End Food Pantry in our community. The pantry is a part of Hunger Free Alexandria. Currently, the pantry serves people in need on the west end of Alexandria on Mondays from 5 - 6:30pm. Each week is hosted by a different congregation. Saint James leads the pantry on the first Monday of the month. Debbie Stadtler is the West End Food Pantry lead for Saint James.

Saint James builds a team of folks each spring and partners with Rebuilding Together Alexandria to help a low-income family or senior live in safe, secure housing. Rebuilding Together occurs on the last Saturday of each April. We continue to help out Mr. Greene (our first homeowner). He’s a delight and Saint James folks care for his yard and he reciprocates with delicious smoked meat. Learn more about RTA here.

Saint James partners with Arlington Temple United Methodist each summer to take a team to an ASP worksite. This week-long adventure has youth, young adults and more seasoned Saint James folks. Volunteers work on homes of low-income families and stay at ASP locations. The ASP experience is both a mission experience and a spiritual one as volunteers share together in daily devotions and acts of service to one another. More info about ASP can be found on their website, https://www.asphome.org/.

Saint James partners with LCAC on occasional food drives to stock the pantry, for the winter coat outreach each December and the Christmas outreach. LCAC serves low-income families and seniors in southern Fairfax County. Consider organizing a winter coat drive at work or in your neighborhood! One Saint Jamesian knits hats each year for the coat outreach. More info about “adopting” a child or teen for Christmas will be available in late October. More info about LCAC can be found on their website, https://lortonaction.org/.
