Next Stop: the Wilderness

Immediately after being baptized by John the baptizer, Jesus heads out into "the wilderness." What is this wilderness experience all about? Is there some way in which our journey of faith is "into the wilderness?" Is there something deeper that happens in the wilderness? Is it always a literal wilderness? I have a lot of questions about this wilderness journey and what impact it had for Jesus and, by extension, how a wilderness journey might impact us.
