The Prophet's Apprentice: Elisha

Sometimes in the Hebrew Bible, prophets arise independently, called out by God alone. Sometimes there is a passing along of the prophetic office as is the case between Elijah and Elisha. Elisha learns the work of the prophet from Elijah and, in turn, Elijah passes his mantle literally to Elisha. What can we learn about our own practice in following God through this apprenticeship relationship between Elisha and Elijah?
