Bridge Building at Springdale House

The residents of Springdale House are eager to reconnect with their Saint James friends! We’re in the process of making ongoing plans and forming a team for a variety of activities. Some of their suggestions are below. You don’t need to participate in all activities to be a Bridge Builder. Planned dates will likely be on Saturdays. Please sign up in the lobby or talk to Ann Patterson if interested (cell 703-407-0958, ampatterson3@yahoo.com).

1. Another house cleaning of public areas (kitchen, living room, dining room, bathroom, etc.)
2. Yard work – they need help trimming tree branches and shrubs on the property
3. They could greatly use donations of a vacuum, mop and/or toaster oven
4. Field trips – picnics, museums, fishing, sightseeing (they are open to other ideas); we will need to provide all transportation to whatever activities are planned
5. Cookout
6. Gardening – they have an area for a vegetable garden on the property and would welcome companions to spend time together planting and tending the garden this summer.

Children’s Easter Eggs-stravaganza

Get ready and excited for our Easter Saturday activities! There will be a bounce house, crafts, snack, egg hunt and a bible story. If you would like to help with set-up or clean up, please email Hannah, Hannah@sjumc.net. Save the date: Saturday, April 15th from 11:30am to 1pm, invite your friends AND neighbors! Download the flyer here, or pick one up in the lobby to take home and invite a neighbor!

Women CRUSH Wednesdays

Looking for a way to grow in your faith? Maybe learn a bit and have some laughs too? Women of Saint James are invited (your friends too) to join together once a month on Wednesdays for dessert, coffee/tea and some conversation. We will be using Anne Lamott’s new book called “Hallelujah Anyway, Rediscovering Mercy” and the book of Esther. Our first meeting will be Wednesday, April 12th from 7:30-9pm at the Mission House. Interested? Email Linda, Linda@sjumc.net or see her for more info.

Tripping to North Carolina to Help Others — Mission

Saint James will be putting together another team for our 4th year to be a part of the Appalachian Service Project in partnership with Arlington Temple UMC to help a senior or family in North Carolina this summer on July 15th-22nd.  Cost is expected to be $350 per person + incidentals. Interested in growing your faith AND transforming someone’s home? See Linda (Linda@sjumc.net) for more info.

Learn about your Gifts

In the message about Jesus, Peter and catching fish, we learned that in our relationship with Jesus we come to fulfill our calling when we join him in this world. As promised, if you are looking for an assessment to figure out your gifts, consider taking this one from the United Methodist Church, http://www.umc.org/what-we-believe/spiritual-gifts-online-assessment. Want to talk about what you learned? Reach out to James, James@sjumc.net or Linda, Linda@sjumc.net.
